UK – BIRMINGHAM – A mum who operates as a dominatrix maintains it’s a ‘customer service role’ akin to plumbing – but worries fresh legislation could plunge the sector into destitution.

Porcelain Victoria has been selling sex since turning 18 whilst working at McDonald’s to cover her expenses.

Now 26 and a parent, she operates full-time as a sex worker catering to both men and women ranging from 18 to 77 years old.

Porcelain states she generates earnings that provide her with financial independence – and enables her to support her child.

Her services encompass dominatrix work, escorting, BDSM and online adult content.

Porcelain Victoria compares sex work to customer service and contends it should be normalised similarly to occupations such as plumbing or shop work.

However, she’s worried that potential legislative changes in Scotland might force her and fellow sex workers into financial hardship.

She remarked: “I love my job. I would never do any of a job. Even though the government doesn’t see it as a one.

“This is a customer service job. My job is to put a smile on your face before you walk out the door.

“When it comes to a plumber when it comes to a driver, even a McDonald’s server, we are here to give you a type of service.

“It’s a customer service based job where we want those 5 stars. We want to do good.

“It’s just like any other job, which is why we advocate safety because we don’t get that with this job.

“But we don’t get maternity pay. We don’t get pensions. We don’t get sick pay, holiday pay.”

Porcelain Victoria began selling sex as a means to flee an abusive home environment whilst also boosting her income.

Beyond covering bills and rent, she was financially supporting both her father and her then-partner.

The earnings from sex work enabled her to leave Runcorn, Cheshire and relocate to Reading, where she became pregnant at 19.

She explained: “I got unexpectedly pregnant. I carried on with my work at that time.

“When I was 19, I was escorting, and I was also dominatrixing. Then with my pregnancy, I went into webcam because it was much safer rather than escorting.

“From there I was able to move up to Scotland.”

Now residing in Fife, Porcelain maintains an extensive client roster whom she receives at her residence alongside her escort services.

She also performs webcam work for an adult platform called Dark Fans – a network catering to fetish and kink enthusiasts.

Porcelain Victoria explained that her profession provides her with financial independence that conventional employment simply cannot offer.

Her client base includes individuals who have remained loyal since her early days and others she encounters monthly – encompassing married men, women and non-binary or transgender people.

The majority of her clientele comprises men – often those seeking to dress as women and experiment with cosmetics for the first time.

She remarked: “I love the fact that I can give fantasies that clients have been wanting to do for many years, especially in the Dominatrix part.

“Some men haven’t been able to indulge in that fantasy because of social stigma.

“A common one which I get is men in their 50s, when they come to see me, sometimes they want to dress up. And they want to dress like a woman.

“I’ve had clients put on makeup and just started crying because they’ve never seen themselves really vulnerable.

“It’s very beautiful to see the walls come down and that toxic masculinity for so many years to just shut down where they don’t need to be the boss.”

Porcelain revealed her oldest client is 77-years-old and she welcomes anyone from the age of 18.

She expressed: “It warms my heart that people do enjoy coming to see myself because of my own skills and me being trusted.

“I remember a woman coming to see me based on the fact that I am a professional and she trusts me more than a random guy off Tinder.

“It doesn’t matter in terms of if they’re married or not because that is none of my business. It is up to the men what they do. And it is up to women what they do, whether they are with somebody or not.

“One thing which I try and teach my clients is communication is key. If you can come out to your client, if you can come out to your partner, do it.”

Independent MSP Ash Regan has proposed a bill that would criminalise paying for sexual services.

This approach, often dubbed the Nordic model, was first adopted in Sweden.

Regan, who previously vied for the SNP leadership, contends that tackling men’s demand for prostitution will aid in safeguarding women.

Porcelain Victoria counters: “Why am I paying taxes if this is violence against women and girls?”.

“The government is constantly, trying to bring in this Nordic model, which has no pros for sex workers.

“We can’t even work together for safety. Now, that’s honestly ridiculous. We just need labour rights.

“I think a lot of the stigma is because we do not educate people enough. We aren’t teaching kids properly about sex ed. We aren’t teaching kids properly about consent.

“Why are people doing sex work in the first place? Because we can’t afford to live in the in the economy like this. It is ridiculous.”

She aspires to continue her profession until she is “old” and transition into a counselling role, assisting couples and individuals in understanding their sexual preferences when it comes to kinks and fetishes.

She is also an active member of a grassroots movement named Scotland for Decrim – a fresh campaign advocating for the complete decriminalisation of sex work in Scotland.
