BDSM Radio and website on the back burner for a while

HEEMSKERK – As some of you have already heard, I @tomVerhoeven (Fetlife link) am busy showering my dear mother with my love in between my personal health issues.

Hopefully back very soon with the BDSM Radio Journal from a new studio that will be put into use on April 1st.

She recently had uterine cancer, and I went through the whole process with her by taking her to the AVL.

It seemed to be going well. Until she was rushed to the hospital four times with blaring sirens due to extremely high blood pressure.

After a scan of her back, a small tear was discovered in her pelvis, likely caused by something malignant. So, back to the AVL in suspense for blood tests and a scan at their early diagnostic unit.
After a few days, it turned out that another scan was coming, and now we are waiting for the results.

In the meantime, I just don’t have the energy or inspiration to make BDSM radio and maintain the BDSM Radio website with BDSM news from the media. (It is back up and running now, though)

Subjes vitamins is still manageable, because then I only have to piece together music from playlists sent in by subs or doms.

I do try to distract myself by hanging around on FetLife.

Seemingly pointless, but it provides a brief distraction to think about fun (kinky) things.

But I will be back with the radio, because that is my great passion.

In any case, before April 1st, with a report on the political Heemskerk BDSM Party.

HILVERSUM – A disappointing dating market, more freedom, and no longer having to ‘take care’ of the other person: half (48 percent) of single women would rather remain single than enter into a relationship. Among men, this figure is 3 out of 10 (31 percent).

This is evident from research by the EenVandaag Opinion Panel and Libelle among nearly 7,500 singles and over 15,000 people in a relationship. It is certainly not only older people who no longer feel the need for a new love: among people aged 35 and over, a large group (56 percent) has also sworn off relationships. For example, because they have already had relationships, after which they feel the need to focus on themselves.

Independence and freedom are very important for both men and women who prefer to remain single. “In a relationship, you constantly have to take the other person into account,” says a woman. And a man states: “Just doing my own thing, no being controlled.”

In addition, several women feel that in their previous relationships they were primarily used to provide care. They are no longer interested in that, as they prefer to invest that energy in themselves. “I am not a glorified housekeeper and cook,” says one participant. And someone else writes: “The housekeeper who made love is far behind me. Life is mine now.”

HILVERSUM – When discussing sex work, one quickly arrives at stories of abuse, exploitation, and human trafficking. Important, says PhD candidate Lisa Hoekman, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. “If you mention victims, you must also mention the voluntary sex workers,” she says in  Villa VdB . Together with sex worker Eve de Jong, she advocates for more nuance in the debate.

Hoekman conducts research at the University of Groningen into the relationship between legislation and human rights within the sex industry. “I look at measures intended to combat abuses, and how they relate to fundamental rights,” she explains. “Consider a national register, for example: how does that relate to privacy?”

According to her, the rules are often well-intentioned, but sometimes they go too far. “The choice to engage in sex work is difficult for many people to understand. As a result, that group is less heard.” The consequence: policies primarily designed for protection, but with less regard for autonomy.
