German Catholic congress approves bondage group’s booth

Organizers of the WĂŒrzburg congress told EWTN News the groupÊŒs guidelines contain ‘no contradiction with the Catechism.’

GERMANY -An ecumenical working group promoting “consensual BDSM culture” will again exhibit at GermanyÊŒs Catholic Congress in WĂŒrzburg this week after organizers said its guidelines pose “no contradiction with the Catechism.”

BDSM is an acronym that stands for “bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, sadism and masochism.”

“The Ecumenical Working Group BDSM and Christianity has been represented on the Kirchenmeile at several Catholic Congresses now,” Cosima Jagow-Duda, head of press and marketing at the Catholic Congress, told CNA Deutsch, the German-language sister service of EWTN News, in response to an inquiry.

“All organizations with an explicitly Christian reference have this right in principle, provided they are not unconstitutional or hostile to specific groups.” The groupÊŒs guidelines, she added, contain “no contradiction with the Catechism.”

The working group was founded in 1999, according to its own website. It also exhibited at the previous Catholic Congress in Erfurt in 2024.

USA -Minneapolis has been a highly politicized place recently, and it’s been a while since I’ve written for this column. Not gonna lie, it’s been difficult to get excited about sextra-curricular activities during the height of the recent federal occupation (and even more difficult to write about them).

But something interesting occurred to me in recent months after reading vital resistance updates on the kinky social media site FetLife.com: Kink is political. I remember seeing one FetLife post that read “an autonomous zone has spawned at Portland and E 34th.” At that moment, there was nowhere else on the internet where that information could be found. I knew there was something incredible happening in kinky communities.

There’s an ongoing debate within those communities about kink. Is it inherently political, or is it simply politicized by the culture around it? The distinction is useful, at least at first. To describe something as political suggests that it is fundamentally about power, systems, and social structures. To call it politicized implies that those meanings have been imposed from the outside.

Kink exists in the tension between the two.

USA – A recent study published in Psychology and Sexuality suggests that relational context and the frequency of sexual practices play a central role in the sexual satisfaction of people who engage in BDSM and kink. The research provides evidence that sexual well-being in these communities is shaped by a mix of relationship status, education, and specific behavioral roles. These findings highlight the complexity of non-traditional sexual expressions across different cultures.

Understanding what contributes to sexual satisfaction helps professionals improve sexual health frameworks and overall human well-being. Much of the existing scientific literature focuses almost entirely on mainstream sexual behaviors. Practices such as BDSM, which involves bondage, discipline, dominance, submission, sadism, and masochism, often fall outside these conventional frameworks.

Scientists note that these non-traditional sexual practices are sometimes misunderstood or pathologized by broader society. Because of this societal stigma, the sexual well-being of individuals who participate in BDSM or kink communities remains under-explored. Past data tends to show that these practitioners experience equal or even higher levels of sexual satisfaction compared to the general public.

USA – ESCONDIDO, Calif. (TCN) — A 32-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter for the 2023 death of her OnlyFans client.

On April 17, 2023, 55-year-old Michael Dale paid OnlyFans creator Michaela Rylaarsdam for a sexual fetish meet-up, the North County Pipeline reports. Police say that during their encounter, Dale was bound in plastic wrap like a mummy, had his eyes glued shut, had women’s boots glued onto his feet, and had a plastic bag placed over his head. Rylaarsdam said he had requested these things, but once she noticed he was not breathing or responding, she attempted to perform CPR and dialed 911. Dale was transported to the hospital, where he later died.

According to the prosecution, Dale died from oxygen deprivation, NBC San Diego reports. A video obtained by prosecutors showed Dale with the bag over his head and duct tape on his mouth while his hands were bound. People reports Dale’s manner of death was ruled a homicide and that the bag had been on his head for at least eight minutes.

The Escondido Police Department conducted an investigation that lasted several months, per the Pipeline. During their investigation, authorities reviewed a series of text messages between Dale and Rylaarsdam in which Dale detailed his requests and paid Rylaarsdam over $11,000. Complex reports that the video Rylaarsdam created of the incident was meant to be shared on her OnlyFans page.

ITALY -Riccardo Sansebastiano, 61, died after suffocating during a game involving collars and handcuffs with Gianna Damonte, 67 – who has been ordered to pay compensation to his family.

A woman who killed her lover during a sex game that went dramatically wrong has been ordered by an court to pay the victim’s family ÂŁ390,000 damages. Regional transport boss Riccardo Sansebastiano, 61, died after suffocating during a bondage session involving collars and handcuffs with his lover architect Gianna Damonte, now aged 67. She was eventually convicted of manslaughter in 2022 after a long running case and sentenced to a year in jail – though the judge said Mr Sansebastiano had “actively contributed to his death” by choosing the equipment used. Now a civil court in Alessandria, Italy, where the couple lived, has ordered Damonte to pay ÂŁ390,000 damages to the man’s wife and three children. With fees and interest, the final payout could top ÂŁ400,000.
