BRUSSELS – Subspace on the Zavel is no ordinary art gallery. Visitors encounter St. Andrew’s crosses, ropes, and erotic art there. Those wishing to discover the wondrous world of the Japanese bondage style shibari have also come to the right place. “The samurai used this technique to torture their prisoners.”

“We initially sold BDSM furniture and accessories,” explains Sigrid Schellen, gallery owner and BDSM mistress. “But we have evolved into a workshop space where we currently specialize in shibari, a Japanese bondage technique.”

BRUZZ reporter Thomas Goossens experienced it firsthand. For once, the bondage workshop was held with the roller shutter fully open.
