USA – Madonna and Sam Smith release their new collaboration.
Released today, “Vulgar” exudes sex and vogue, just in time for Pride Month. Although both musicians have never shied away from the kinky side of life, Madonna’s verse debuts a different side of her sex-positivity.
“Let’s get into the groove, you know just what to do / Boy, get down on your knees ’cause I am Madonna / If you fuck with Sam tonight, you’re fucking with me / So watch what you say or I’ll split your banana / We do what we wanna, we say what we gotta / We’re sexy and free and we feel / VULGAR.”
The lyrics tap the Daddy/Mommy style of dominatrix culture, which is quite fitting as Madonna is definitely MOTHER. More specifically, this style of domme-ing comes from a protective figure, giving “Mommy” energy. As BadGirlsBible shared, they “take responsibility for their sub’s wellbeing seriously,’ hence Madonna’s threats to “split your banana,” “if you fuck with Sam tonight.”
Ironically, the single is inspired by Madonna’s speech at the 2023 GRAMMY Awards show, where she introduced Smith and Kim Petras 2023 GRAMMY performance for “Unholy.” In her speech, she said “If they call you shocking, scandalous, troublesome, problematic, provocative or dangerous,” she said, “You are definitely onto something.” And according to the exclusive “Vulgar,” press release, they left and made their new Pride anthem.
Tapping the freedom of vulgarity, Madonna debuts the single to her dance crew and before you know it, she has the entire dance team vogueing, twerking and making out.
