UK – One reality show that was deemed “too raunchy to air” is making a huge comeback, 17 years after it was axed by Australian network Channel Ten. Big Brother Uncut, also known as Big Brothel, proved way too racy during its 2001 debut it was axed just five years later in 2006.
The series was rebranded as Big Brother: Adults Only for its final season. It featured a whole host of saucy scenes, including housemates showering fully nude and captured on camera. In 2001, a dominatrix was spotted demonstrating her kinks at a bondage party, with one topless star strapped to a table as she teased him.
There was more. Contestants would get intimate with each other on camera, with one pair appearing to romp in a sauna. It also aired a sexy song about fetishes, and simulated anal sex.
Alongside a regular series of Big Brother, anything that happened in the house that was too racy for primetime TV was shown on Uncut. But season three winner Reggie Bird “didn’t know they had an Uncut show” until weeks after the official series drew to a close.
She confessed: “You know, it didn’t really bother me to be honest. I just said, ‘Oh, poor people, they’ve seen my flange,’” when her sister told her what she’d shown on TV.
But in 2006, it was axed, with Channel Ten claiming it was “putting unfair pressure on our team”. Now it’s set to return in 2024 after a 17-year hiatus, this time on Channel 7. It will be hosted by original presenter Sonia Kruger, and hit screens along with an all-new series of regular Big Brother. The new Uncut series will be available to stream on 7plus sometime next year.
The controversy regarding the original series saw two male housemates in the 2006 series removed from the house after allegedly sexually assaulting a female housemate, who declined to press charges. Michael ‘John’ Bric and Michael ‘Ashley’ Cox called Camilla Severi over to their bed, and as one of the men held her down the other rubbed his penis in her face.
Camilla exclaimed at the time: “I’ve been turkey slapped!” as the men collapsed into giggles. But hours later, producers removed Bric and Cox from the programme and handed footage over to Queensland police.
