USA – Fishnets, pantyhose, ankle socks, fluffy socks, no-show slip-ons—they’re all in high demand, and you can make a killing selling them, if you know where to look.
Many people who venture into sock sales already have an established business as a dominatrix or they do it part-time or in addition to their 9-to-5 gigs, and they often couple their socks sales with used panties, feet pics, or other used clothing. But selling socks isn’t for the faint of heart.
“So many people think this type of work is easy, especially with websites like Feet Finder,”says Nicole, a 33-year-old freelance journalist who used to be an online dominatrix. “You have to be appealing, you have to sell the entire package, and they have to want your socks,”because paying customers won’t just buy at random. And while the socks themselves are the main dish, clients pay more for socks worn during specific activities. They need to look heavily used, dirty, and carry a certain smell.
Sass, 29, a medical aesthetician who sells socks part-time, has clients with very specific requests: “namely that I wear the panties and socks they’re buying when I’m ovulating, or to bed (and in most cases, not shower upon waking up), or that I wear them to the gym.” Extra points for wearing them during an intense workout. And they alway need to be packaged in a vacuum-sealed bag. You know, to retain the smell.
I spoke to six different sock sellers on various parts of their entrepreneurial journeys to learn what their business dealings look like and how much they actually make from this particular brand of kink. Here’s what they had to say.
“I once made $700 for my used socks and panties. Socks aren’t my go-to for selling, but panties are. Someone who wanted to purchase my panties asked if I would be comfortable selling my socks too because they really liked my feet. Most want them dirty and stinky—like wearing socks all day, under closed-toe shoes like boots, working out, things like that. Someone recently requested that I keep them on during sex!” —Sass, 29
“I mostly sell custom foot-fetish videos, but when someone asked to buy my socks, I sold a pair for about $60. It seems like it’s a popular kink, and I would be open to doing it more often if I had a system in place, but I run into issues with shipping. Not all the men who want socks want to pay for shipping.” —Anita, 36
“I have been doing this since I was 24 years old and got into it because I like to sniff socks too. It’s my fetish, kind of like master-sub play. Every pair of socks I’m wearing, I can sell because there is such a high demand and waiting list. I sell around five to eight pairs per month and they pay me 49€ ($53) per pair.”—Luca, 37
“On average, I’ve made $60 per pair of worn socks. To sell, I joined several websites that sold socks and panties and would post images of my feet. I was a femdom (female dominatrix), so my clientele were submissive straight men who wanted to smell socks—the stinkier, the better. I would also brand myself on Snapchat, Twitter, and OnlyFans to get followers and subscribers. Once someone sent me a CashApp amount, I would send them their products vacuum-sealed (to retain the scent).” —Nicole, 33
“I started foot modeling during the pandemic, and soon after, I learned there was a market for worn socks! I average $1,500 a month selling them part-time.” —Ivy, 26
“I was primarily into online ‘findomme’ (financial domination), but now I’m branching out into sock sales, and I’m working on setting up a formal online shop. So far, I’ve made around $400 in the three months I’ve been selling socks on reddit. None of my work includes nudity and I have a normal day job.” —Alaina, 23
