USA – VICTORIA – Festival founder Dan Savage announced some sad news for all the HUMP! Film Festival fans in Victoria.

Described as ‘The World’s Best Amatuer Porn Film Festival,’ Savage’s HUMP! Film Festival is a lovingly curated festival of short erotic films made by real people for real people. 

Set to come back for its 19th year on May 25th, the show’s fate took a turn this week when Consumer Protection BC suddenly required “Adult Licensing” for the upcoming HUMP! screenings in Victoria.

The People’s Representative Council (DPR) included a regulation prohibiting bondage and discipline, sadism and masochism (BDSM) sexual activity in the Family Resilience Bill (UU). From the perspective of the DPR, BDSM is a sexual deviation such as homosexual, lesbian, and incest. Unfortunately, there is no foundation to strengthen their perspective.

USA – Flogging, spanking and being tied up are topics that are usually considered taboo among college students, but learning more about kink and consent may enlighten our experiences with intimacy. On Wednesday, Shippensburg students gathered in CUB 119 to discuss such topics with a conversation led by Megan Yost, Dickinson College professor of psychology and women’s gender and sexuality studies.

Upon entry, attendees were given a blank index card to write down questions they may have to submit in a bucket during the discussion, so their questions could be asked anonymously. This conversation allowed students to become more educated on topics they normally cannot speak about and ask questions within a safe, judgment-free space.
