USA – Everyone has their kinks, but Colorado’s love of ball gags, erotic books and butt plugs sold by a global sex toy company propelled five different cities to top of the rankings in Lovehoney’s U.S. Sex Map 2025.
The UK-based sexual wellness brand’s map reveals top buyers per capita across more than 1,200 U.S. cities last year. Five Colorado cities were among this year’s top buyers of butt plugs, strap-ons and sex toys in general, pushing Colorado to the top 10 percent of states for total sex toy purchases.
Massachusetts college towns of Somerville and Cambridge ranked first and second, respectively, on the list of top sex toy buyers, while Reston, Virginia in the Washington, D.C., metro area came in at third.
Lovehoney came to Denver in 2023 to recruit for its “orgasm advisory board,” which tested the company’s sex toys to offer feedback. The company said it recruited in Denver because the metro was already one of Lovehoney’s hottest areas. One board member was recruited from Denver and ended up testing seven products a month over the course of a year, for a total of 84 products, according to Lovehoney.
Denver has also ranked high in public sex in the past, and is home to one of a handful of sex museums in the wold. However, Lovehoney’s latest roundup lists Boulder as Colorado’s most sex-toy-obsessed city, and Broomfield’s love of butt plugs ensured the Denver suburb wasn’t far behind.
Here’s a glimpse into the kinks of different Colorado cities based on sex toy sales from 2024.
Boulder and Broomfield Love Butt Plugs
Lovehoney’s top sex toy shoppers in Colorado can be found in Boulder, which ranked twelfth among sex toy buyers nationwide. Rearing behind Boulder was the suburb Broomfield, which came in nineteenth place; butt plugs were a big reason why both reached so far up.
Boulder came in tenth place in the list of top butt plug buyers nationwide, while Broomfield was ninth. Boulder and Broomfield were also the top cities for bondage gear: Boulder ranked 30th for bondage buys while Broomfield ranked 23rd. Broomfield was also the 26th biggest buyer of roleplay costumes and accessories nationwide, but Boulder was 316th in the category.
Broomfield also loved vibrators more than anywhere else in Colorado, according to Lovehoney. The town was the 22nd nationwide in buying vibrators, while Boulder was 34th. Boulder only managed to beat Broomfield when it came to buying strap-ons and anal toys, such as beads. Boulder was the 64th biggest strap-on buyer and the 38th biggest for anal toys from Lovehoney, while Broomfield didn’t crack to the top 100 for either category.
Denver Loves Ball Gags
Lovehoney gave the Mile High City the distinction of being the “most silent city,” because online shoppers love gags, which are usually used in bondage to restrain someone from talking. Denver bought the highest number of gags per capita last year from Lovehoney, according to the company.
Denver sex toy shopping was otherwise unremarkable in 2024. The city didn’t make the top 100 cities for any other products, with a 106th butt plug ranking its next best mark.
Overall, Denver ranked as the 104th top sex toy buyer, far behind butt-plug loving Boulder or Broomfield. But it still ranked way above neighboring Aurora, which came in as the 550th top sex toy buyer. Aurora only bought more role play costumes and accessories than Denver, according to Lovehoney.
Fort Collins Likes to Strap It On
Home of Colorado State University, Fort Collins is usually on the losing end of the college football’s Rocky Mountain Showdown with the University of Colorado in Boulder, but it beat its rival city at buying more strap-ons and vibrators from Lovehoney.
Fort Collins was ranked 27th on the list of most sex toys purchased last year. Although it didn’t crack the top twenty on the overall list like Boulder did, Fort Collins bought more strap-ons from Lovehoney than any other Colorado city, and came in as the ninth-biggest buyer nationwide. Fort Collins was also the seventeenth biggest buyer of vibrators nationwide.
Boulder beat Fort Collins when it came to butt plugs, bondage and role play, but Fort Collins made a strong push in the butt plug battle, coming out as the 19th biggest buyer in the U.S.
Colorado Springs Really Likes to Study Sex
Lovehoney sells guides on sex positions, dirty talk, intimate massages and oral sex, and Colorado Springs bought more of these books than any other U.S. city, earning it the title of “most studious.”
Colorado Springs didn’t rank high in other categories and came in 175th on the list of most sex toys purchased. Denver beat it out in every individual product category except strap-ons.
