USA – EUGENE, Ore. – A display showing a mannequin dressed in bondage accessories has been taken down at a Eugene adult shop after residents said they were offended.
The mannequin was tied up, handcuffed, blindfolded and wearing lingerie in the River Road Adult Shop storefront window.
One woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, said she first asked employees at the store to take it down on Oct. 28. On Sunday, she saw it was still up and sent an email to the company. She wrote the display was highly offensive and said it was causing a distraction to drivers, promoted violence against women and exposed children to pornographic imagery.
Mother of two Nuvia Jameson said the display is the last thing she wants her young children to see.
“Everyone has different interests, and I’m not here to judge at all, but to have it on display for everyone to see, I guess my concern is just children,” Jameson said.
KEZI 9 News reached out to the Adult Shop on Monday. An employee told KEZI they also thought the display was too much for the public and removed the bondage accessories from the mannequin. In an email to the offended resident, a company staff member apologized that it was not handled sooner. They said the display was not approved by their corporate office.
Theresa Boudreau lives right across the street from the store and said the display didn’t bother her but she believed they went too far and understands why parents with small children are upset.
“I don’t think there was any malice or forethought,” Boudreau said. “I don’t think anybody set out to be offensive or bother the neighborhood.”
The Adult Shop company has 11 stores in Oregon.
