Sherry Lever, aka Miss Sofia, is a 73-year-old dominatrix who has men falling at her feet and begging her to humiliate them. And, she tells us, it has boosted her confidence no end

UK – With a personal chauffeur and cleaner, assistants at her beck and call, and monthly foot massages, Sherry Lever is living a life of luxury. But the 73-year-old isn’t splashing out on these indulgences.

Sherry, also known as her alter ego, Miss Sofia, has been a dominatrix for almost 15 years, turning to the profession in a bid to earn some extra cash after her husband left. Now she has built up a list of regular clients who she refers to as slave, sub (aka submissive) or sissy – charging £120 per hour to satisfy their unusual kinks or fetish.

She didn’t dive in with both leather boots at once, though. She began her unconventional career on phone sex lines while also working as a part-time chef. As she understood the industry further, Sherry realised that 90% of her callers “wanted some sort of domination”. “I mentioned it to my daughter, and she said, ‘Mum, you’re doing it on the phone for peanuts, why don’t you do it in real life?’” And so her new career began.

The men who come to her are “very submissive”, she explains. “They like to pass the reins over and be told what to do. A lot of them have responsible jobs, this is their relaxing time. Sometimes they’ll do my housework –they love every minute of it. I get my chores done and get paid at the same time,” Sherry laughs. “It’s empowering because when you’re nearly 74, and you’ve got men coming in, falling on their knees and worshipping you, what’s not to like?”

And while being one of the UK’s oldest dominatrices is no mean feat, she insists her age is her secret weapon. “It works in my favour because so many prefer an older dominatrix. They are from all walks of life, from bin men to teachers, medical professionals, politicians and high court judges. There is no one type, but they are always men. I’ve got no desire to have a woman on her knees in front of me,” she says. “No desire to tell her what to do or punish her – that doesn’t appeal to me at all.”

Sherry has a playroom in her home packed with various toys and objects to use during her sessions; whips, canes, handcuffs, masks and even a huge cage. And, sometimes, the mum of three and grandmother of two hosts ‘sleepovers’, despite two of her grown children still living at home. “Some men will stay overnight in the playroom cage.”

Luckily for Sherry, her daughter and two sons are incredibly understanding about what happens under Mum’s roof. “They’re unfazed by what their mum gets up to in the playroom, other than the odd sound! All my children are supportive. They know exactly what I do and don’t have any worries about it.

“They’ve seen the playroom – if they want to go into the garden, they have to go through it. During the early days, if my son didn’t like the sounds, he’d go upstairs, away from the noise.” Sherry says her confidence has soared and that her role has changed her life for the better. Whereas most women in their seventies would be putting their feet up with a cuppa.

Behind Sherry’s playroom door, all sorts happen. Role play includes being a teacher – with a 1960s school desk and a whipping bench, but she insists it’s all “harmless”. She also reveals her most unusual request: being a merman. “He brought a blow-up paddling pool with him, which we filled with water. He put a tail on, got in the water and splashed about – so I ordered him to flap his tail more.”

It’s not just the men enjoying themselves, Sherry has fun too. “I like funny masks. I once dressed someone up in a little pink tutu and a Shrek mask and sent him up the hill across the road from where I live. He was up there doing a little dance. It’s humiliating for them, but it’s fun for me. I don’t expose them, they’re wearing a mask, so nobody knows who they are.”

Sherry says the neighbours are used to seeing her slaves cleaning her windows, running around the hill outside or taking the dog for a walk. “I’m very lucky, they’re very tolerant. But if I have a gimp in chains, I don’t take them out, as I’m very aware there are children around. It’s different with people dressed as the Hulk or a rabbit. I sent a rabbit down to Asda once,” she admits. “They love to be humiliated, which means there’s a lot of laughter.”

But it’s more than just satisfying their kinks, as Sherry says she has grown close to some of the men. “I’m very fond of them, and if they’ve got a problem, quite often, it’s me they turn to. A lot of them will say I’m their therapist. Some have something they desperately want to change about their life, such as alcoholics. I’ve got one who hasn’t had a drink for two years now – it does work.”

Due to their submissive nature, Sherry says she’s never felt unsafe with any of her subs. “They’re frightened of me, I’m the one who does the intimidating.” But there are rules they must follow. “I do what I enjoy. I don’t do anything intimate. I also won’t be touched, apart from my feet.” To that end, she has a ‘foot slave’ who visits once a month.

Sherry also has two people she refers to as ‘lifestyle slaves’. “They don’t pay, but they are at my beck and call. They would never say ‘I want’, they are just here to serve me, so they never ask for anything. Whenever I have any jobs to do in the house, or if I need to be taken anywhere, I’ve always got one that’s available.

“I usually have one that comes at weekends and stays. He’s almost like part of the family now, he’s been with me for nearly five years. He sleeps on the sofa, brings me a cup of tea in the morning, does everything. He’ll often come for Christmas, and my kids are fond of him. We have a good relationship, but we’re not romantically involved. He knows his place.”

The question is, will Miss Sofia ever retire? “I can’t see it – what would I do? I would just get told, this keeps me young.”
