NETHERLANDS – ARNHEM – On Friday evening, a BDSM party at the SteamWorks gay sauna on Roermondsplein was unexpectedly interrupted by a police raid. Attendees initially thought it was a hired act, but it turned out to be a drug enforcement operation

Around 9:30 a.m., heavily armed officers wearing balaclavas stormed the building. Owner Arold Dingemans told De Gelderlander that the operation was peaceful and professional. Police searched the sauna for about two and a half hours, opening all the lockers belonging to guests. Nine packs containing a total of 32 illegal Kamagra erection pills, several bags of marijuana, and a sum of cash were found. No one was arrested, and Dingemans himself was not taken to the police station, according to De Gelderlander.

The raid took place shortly before SteamWorks’ planned closure on January 2nd, a decision Dingemans says was made in October for health reasons. He suspects that multiple reports of drug use prompted the inspection. The sauna has  reopened.
