HEEMSKERK – Life can take strange turns. This afternoon, a huge number of sirens, a lot of panic, and screaming. When I looked out the window, I saw that a neighbor was being resuscitated. Despite the arrival of the trauma helicopter, he didn’t make it. I am a heart patient myself, and since the age of 39, I’ve had angioplasty twice and been stuffed with stents. When you see something like that involving a neighbor who is over 10 years younger, it makes me personally stop and think about just how much we are “people of the day.” After a busy time with a sick mother and a world on the verge of exploding due to war, it is wonderful to escape submissively for a while as a radio sub. Fortunately, I had no reason to complain. Mistress Lou and Miss Kitty—the latter writes captivating stories in the Massad—had unblocked me, so I can handle my dose of misery for a bit longer.
