ROTTERDAM – Major questions are being raised about Rotterdam’s permitting policy now that the international fetish and fantasy event Wasteland will not be able to take place in the Maassilo in March. A permit has not been issued for a so-called ‘playroom’. This surprise not only the organizers, but also Joan Nunnely of the D66 party, who is now saddened to see the event move to Amsterdam.
“This really raises questions about the clarity and predictability of Rotterdam’s licensing policy and the space our city offers to international and alternative cultural events, including sex and fetish events,” Nunnely believes.
“Rotterdam,” she says, “presents itself as a vibrant, inclusive, and international city where there’s room for diversity in culture and expression. At the same time, regulations sometimes seem to restrict initiatives that contribute to this image and the city’s appeal.”
Nunnely will question her own culture councillor Kasmi about this.
