USA – SAN FRANCISCO – Angel Adeyoha likes to have a job to do when he’s at the Folsom Street Fair.

“I really like to have a job at the event.” He says it helps him feel grounded. Now in its 40th year, the world-famous BDSM, kink, leather and fetish gear event has always allowed for the open expression of sexual freedom. 

Adeyoha found this scene in the early nineties, having come up with the leather dyke scene back then. This was pre-internet and pre-smartphone. He says he would find out about kink and fetish parties by looking at the back of alt-weekly newspapers and that’s how he found his community of “hot people.” 

Now he’s the executive director of Folsom Street, which produces the South of Market Folsom Street Fair, and also runs the fetish gear-adjacent ‘Up Your Alley’ held annually in July. 

He says at his first Folsom Street Fair in 1993, he gravitated to the strong sense of volunteerism. “You don’t see that kind of support from larger society.”

Although I (Tom Verhoeven) never had the opportunity to know him personally. He was praised for his friendly personality and especially his helpfulness. The scene will miss a great person. He was just 64 years old.

UK – I didn’t intend to write a book about chronic pain. For most of my life, I’ve been a medical ostrich despite being in constant, daily pain from inflammatory arthritis. I simply wanted somebody or something to make it go away. And for more than 20 years, that something has been drugs – specifically, opioids – in escalating doses.

But after a chance remark, and a little research, I became fascinated by pain science, and the idea that I might be able to control my pain myself. Because pain isn’t simply the binary, on/off alarm system most people (and many medics) assume. Many amputees feel pain in limbs they haven’t got; soldiers often report feeling little or no pain despite horrific battlefield injuries; and there are those (22 per cent of men and 12 per cent of women, according to the Kinsey Institute) who actually claim to enjoy it!

That chance remark was made by award-winning BDSM (bondage, dominance, submissive, masochist) model and author Ariel Anderssen. She’s one of those people who enjoys pain. When police arrived just six minutes later they found the 39-year-old fatally injured between two cars and arrested his attacker, Stuart Lindsay Heron, who was trying to leave the scene.

Heron claimed he had spent hours waiting to confront Mr Cameron, a man he did not know, after seeing him “dealing ice to kids”.

But two folders, one titled “target” and the other “Heide”, would identify the real reason he was murdered.

Heron, 50, returned before the Victorian Supreme Court on Monday for a presentence hearing after pleading guilty to Mr Cameron’s July 10, 2021, murder earlier this year.

Outlining the case, crown prosecutor Elizabeth Ruddle KC told the court Heron had been enlisted by his dominatrix, Heide Bos, to “confront” her boyfriend – Mr Cameron.

One has a leather cod-piece moulded tightly around his crotch, along with garters running down his thighs. He also has a studded dog collar around his neck and knee-high boots. Both have various leather straps around their bodies and studs/spikes.”
